Theatre in the Quarter

Theatre in the Quarter is Chester’s vibrant local theatre company and is dedicated to creating productions which combine drama and music in innovative and exciting ways. Led by a professional team of writers, composers, directors, designers and choreographers, the company’s main focus is to create projects drawing their inspiration from the lives of real people living in the Chester area. Performances include large-scale community plays; studio based professional pieces, young people’s theatre, and street performances.

They are strongly committed to commissioning and performing new works and are keen to encourage developing artists and technicians in Cheshire and the Northwest of England, and to provide opportunities for people to access the arts both as audiences and through direct involvement in our productions.

The company’s Artistic Director, Matt Baker, has a national and international reputation, and is well known in this region for his high quality work with Chester Mystery Plays 2003 and 2008 along with many other ventures Central to Theatre in the Quarter’s vision is the aim of working alongside others to promote Chester as a City of Culture with a flourishing performing arts scene.
