One Earth Festival

A celebration designed to raise awareness of our environment through a variety of activities including arts, crafts, science, technology and fun.  Only One Earth is changing. There is no doubt that our home grown event, Only One Earth has become increasingly successful over recent years, and indeed it is starting to take its place as a significant event in the Chester Festivals calendar.

Due to the success of the event and its potential for expansion, the previous organisers, Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Chester City Council arts department felt it wise to invite a wider partnership to help organise and fund it in the future. Only One Earth has therefore become the One Earth Festival and a steering group has been formed.

This group consists of environmental organisations, local authorities, and community groups from the Cheshire area, including Chester City Council, Made in Cheshire, Friends of the Earth and Cheshire County Council. The One Earth Festival will be a creative celebration providing opportunities for environmental organisations, local authorities, and community groups to raise awareness of sustainability issues. In doing so, it will give members of the public (especially families) the means to learn about and engage with environmental issues and so help to reduce their global footprint.

This year’s festival will take place on Sunday 13th July In 2008 at the Grosvenor Park, Chester. It will host six celebratory, colourful, exciting and fun themed marquees packed with activities and displays. Other attractions will include a bird of prey display, face painting, strolling musicians and entertainers and arts and crafts displays.

It is hoped that this event will continue to go from strength to strength and that the new organisational approach will enable Cheshire Wildlife Trust to continue to play a significant role thus perpetuating this important opportunity for environmental education.
