23rd September 2008

Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral:  10 and 11 October 2008

The 2008 production of the Chester Mystery Plays was a triumphant success this summer.  Performed every five years, they were seen by over 12,000 people.  Audience members hailed them as the best ever and they were praised and applauded by local, regional and national press.

Press quotes include:

·  What’s On Stage, Liverpool:  “an absolute visual feast… an awesome experience (which will) make hair stand on end and… bring a tear to the eye”

·  Radio Merseyside:  "A feast... fantastic entertainment"

·  Guardian:  3 stars – "Chester's Bible belter… A joyful sense of pageantry (that makes) the end of the world worth waiting for”

·  www.beabritdifferent.com:  “totally involving”

·  Manchester Evening News:  “A spectacular event”

·  Daily Telegraph:  “this massive undertaking valuably connects us with our Christian heritage, the North's working-class past and an indefinable quality of human goodness”

·  Chester Chronicle:  “rich, dramatic spectacle… Paul Dabek is charismatic and charming as Lucifer… Sid Mofya is a strong but humble Messiah”

For the first time in its 700 year history, the Chester Mystery Plays is going on tour!  In a unique contribution to Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture celebrations, the cast of the 2008 production will be travelling to Liverpool to present a performed concert version.  This is a very special opportunity to hear Matt Baker’s original music, witness Robin Goddard’s spectacular concept and see the cast of over 100 perform in these truly remarkable plays in full costume and with special effects.

The Plays will be presented in the majestic nave of Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral.  This concert version will include The Creation and Fall of Lucifer, Noah – the Musical, the Nativity, the Crucifixion and the Antichrist.  Performed by a cast of over 100 local people (including children from theatre and school groups), this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
