PETRENKO MAKES DYNAMIC DEBUT WITH JOHN HARLE WORLD PREMIERE

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko

Soloist Garry Magee, baritone

Chester Festival Chorus

Chester Cathedral, Friday 25 July, 7.30 pm

Chester Summer Music Festival is delighted to welcome the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s charismatic chief conductor for an evening which centres around two major choral works.  This tantalizing programme features the World Premiere of Earthlight, a piece specially commissioned by the Festival’s Artist in Residence John Harle.

In this dynamic conclusion to the Chester Summer Festival, Vasily Petrenko conducts this landmark concert, marking the first time that the conductor has appeared as part of the music festival.

As well as the World Premiere of Earthlight, the programme also features Rachmaninov’s Spring Cantata, Vaughan Williams’ Tallis Fantasia and Debussy’s Prelude a L’apres midi d’un Faune.

The Festival’s Artistic Director Andrew Cornall said, “ This unmissable evening will close the Summer Music Festival and is an exciting coup for the city. The 2008 Festival celebrates Chester’s choral and vocal history, one of the key strengths of past festivals. We hope that music lovers will join us for this world premiere and other beautiful pieces in this programme and to welcome one of the world’s most accomplished conductors to the atmospheric surroundings of our beautiful cathedral.”
