THE OUTSIDER NARRATIVE: Writing from the Margins with Margaret Murphy
Using characters on the margins of great historical events, the workshop will examine the outsider as narrator. Participants should choose a character, period, or event in history which they would like to fictionalize, and do a little research. Looking at fiction and non-fiction, including The Suspicions of Mr Whicher by Kate Summerscale; According to Queeney by Beryl Bainbridge; and Music and Silence by Rose Tremain, participants will discover how successful writers make their chosen subject compelling.
Margaret Murphy was born and brought up in Liverpool. Her series of novels featuring fictional Merseyside detectives have garnered critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic. Margaret contributes to Radio Merseyside’s Drive Time and Radio 4’s The Message.
